Introduction
There are some scenarios where updates should not trigger Out of Office rules:

Updates to work items have been closed
-
Certain project spaces where reassignment should not happens

When housekeeping is done to reassign from deactivated users

and other scenarios
Out of Office Assistant offers the flexibility for admins and users to configure the exclusion using an exclusion filter based on Jira Query Language (JQL).
If the updates matches the criteria of the exclusion filter, the Out of Office checks will be skipped for that work item.
Jira Admins can use the default exclusion filter which is applicable for all users.
Steps

Go to Apps → Manage Apps

Click on Out of Office for Jira Cloud → Out of Office Settings option on the left sidebar

Enter the Default Exclusion Filter, which will be applied to all users unless the individual user override it with their own exclusion filter.
Recommendation
It is possible to exclude updates to closed work items.
