Introduction
Narek Pirumyan, a consultant at DONOS Conseil, an Atlassian Gold Solution Partner shared his Master research thesis “Back in Jira, Not Yet Back to Work: What Four Cloud Migrations Showed”
Why this research matters
The author delivered four Jira Data Center to Cloud migrations at DONOS Conseil in 2025 and noticed users didn’t react the same way: at some clients people carried on as normal, while at others activity stayed lower for weeks.
His method was the important part. Rather than asking people how the migration went, he compared what they actually did in Jira before and after the switch.
An important step in the migration Cloud
While migrating the data from Data Center to Data Center without data loss is important, it is also important to check if the users are more productive in Cloud.
A login only shows that someone arrived while a modification shows that someone did something.
How Site Statistics for Jira helps
The Site Statistics for Jira app takes automatic snapshots of key statistics (work item count, project count, user counts, etc) daily, with charts to monitor and report on usage trends. A daily issue-count trend is a rough measure of how much work is being done, not just whether people log in.
The app is supported on both Jira Data Center and Jira Cloud. So you can use it to
-
reconcile the statistics during the migration
-
measure the site-wide work volume before and after migration to justify the ROI
Daily issue-count changes reflect creations minus deletions.
Bulk imports or clean-ups right after migration can distort the first few weeks.
